Use these settings to change what you ask and how visitors answer. You'll find the same editor in a question's Setup tab and in a flow's Question drawer. A shared question has one configuration, so published edits change every place that uses it.

Write the question and name it for your team

What do you want to ask? is the question visitors see. Description adds optional supporting rich text. You can turn selected text into a personalized phrase, then use Preview variations to see combinations of the referenced groups. The fallback supplies wording for visitors without a matching segment. See write and preview personalized questions.

Internal name is required. Your team sees it in pickers and reports, while visitors see the question wording. If the name is blank, Righty can derive it from question wording you've committed in the editor. It won't replace a name you've entered.

Choose how answers appear

Buttons that advance after one selectionButtons, the default for new Multiple choice and Yes / No questions.
Radio buttons that wait for NextRadio. Multiple-answer mode uses checkboxes instead.
Images for each answerImages. You can choose an image for each answer. Hide answer labels starts off.
A dropdownDropdown. Single answers only. It's disabled while multiple answers are on.

The widget affects how answers appear. A Bar uses a dropdown for single-answer Buttons or Images questions. Radio and multiple-answer questions keep their own controls. Check the intended widget as well as the question-editor preview.

Edit answer choices, conditions, and scores

Add answer creates an ordinary answer. Rich-text labels control what visitors see, and drag handles change the saved order. Delete answer removes a choice after you confirm. Before removing an answer people already use, review its branches and mappings.

Edit answer conditions opens Conditions for answer. These rules decide who sees the choice. Without restrictions, everyone sees it. Hiding an answer doesn't assign it to anyone. Use Auto-Segment rules to assign answers automatically.

In a flow editor, Edit answer scores opens Scores for answer. Choose an existing score name or enter a new one beside Modify score, then set the amount. Positive amounts add points and negative amounts subtract them. The initial row has a blank name and an amount of 0, so it has no effect.

Add another score adds a blank row with an amount of 0. Delete controls appear when there's more than one row. To disable the last score change, clear its name or set its amount to 0. One answer can change several named scores. See score and route a quiz to use the totals.

Allow multiple answers or shuffle their order

Allow multiple answers starts off. When it's on, visitors select their answers and click Next. Turning it on removes per-answer branching in every affected flow. The editor warns when this would change branching flows. Dropdown switches to Buttons, while Radio stays selected and shows checkboxes.

Randomize answer order starts off. Eligible ordinary answers shuffle once for each flow instance on a pageview. Their order stays the same while that instance updates on the page. A new pageview can produce a different order, but answers don't reshuffle after every interaction.

The built-in Other answer stays where you put it. Ordinary answers also stay in place when their labels match Other, Something else, None of these, None of the above, or INT_OTHER, regardless of capitalization. Translated labels and other wording aren't automatically recognized as special choices.

Shuffling changes the display order, not an answer's segment, mapped value, or branch. It doesn't create an A/B test or guarantee a better response rate.

Let visitors write in another answer

Add an "Other" write-in starts off. You can drag its special answer row, but it doesn't have an ordinary answer's condition or delete button. Turn the setting off to remove it.

For a single-answer question, Other opens a follow-up. Label controls the choice wording. Answer box selects Short text or Long text. Follow-up prompt, Placeholder, and the button-label override control the next screen. With Radio, visitors click Next after selecting Other to open the follow-up.

For multiple answers, the write-in appears inline. Selecting Other requires text, and visitors can combine it with ordinary choices.

Save write-ins to selects a separate custom field when an email platform is connected. Don't use the same destination for the structured answer and its write-in. Some platforms limit synced text, including limits around 254 characters. RightMessage's full response and the value your platform accepts are separate records. Keeping the full response doesn't guarantee indefinite retention.

Make an input required and set button labels

Required controls whether visitors can skip an input question. New Email and Phone number questions are required. Other new input types start optional. Choice questions don't have this setting.

Button labels opens the per-question Next override and, for optional inputs, the Skip override. Without an override, the question uses the widget's labels. The reset control restores those inherited labels.

An Other follow-up uses its own Next override first, then its parent question's override, then the widget label. These overrides belong to the shared question, not just the flow you're editing. Standalone Rating and NPS questions advance on selection, so a Next label doesn't add a confirmation step.

Find settings for a particular question type

Each input type has its own settings and validation. The question library reference links all 16 types. Input mappings let you choose a compatible native or custom field. Name and Address can map their parts separately. Choice questions have a separate Sync tab.

A running question A/B test locks wording, answers, display, behavior, and Auto-Segment. The editor shows the lock. You can still edit sync, the internal name, and the flows that ask the question, but Email contact actions stay locked. See split-testing questions and offers.

The question-editor preview doesn't record responses, identify visitors, or update your email platform. Follow testing guidance to check your question on your site.
