Widget placement and form questions
You can reuse surveys, open forms from buttons, and match widgets to your site. Find answers about placement, email links, styling, and saved form values.
Choose where your survey or form appears and how visitors use it. These answers cover sharing a flow across pages, opening it from a button or email link, and fixing common display questions.
What's the difference between a flow and a widget?
A flow decides what visitors see next. A widget decides where it appears and how it looks. The flow contains questions, conditions, actions, and the forms or offers visitors reach. A form's submission action decides where collected data goes.
WorkForge (opens in a new tab) could use the same survey flow in an inline widget on one page and a Toaster on another. Each widget can have its own design and display settings. You can also use a Popup, Bar, or Full-screen takeover.
See Create a widget and attach a flow.
Can I put the same survey on a thank-you page and a page for existing subscribers?
Yes. Use one inline widget on both pages, or attach separate widgets to the same flow if you need different designs or question-handling settings. The questions and paths through the flow stay the same.
To save answers to an existing subscriber's contact record, you'll also need a way to identify them. Opening the survey doesn't identify their browser. See Embed a widget and how visitor identification works.
Can I email my existing list a survey link?
Yes. Send a link from your email platform to the page containing your survey. Use your platform's supported identifying link format if you want to save answers to existing contacts.
The interactive survey runs on your website, not inside the email. Receiving or opening the email doesn't run the widget, and RightMessage doesn't replace the platform that sends it. Follow Survey new and existing subscribers for setup.
Can a website button open a form?
Yes. Put the form in a flow attached to a floating widget, then use a manual trigger. Open a widget from a link or button shows how to connect it and links to the supported fragment, attribute, CSS class, and JavaScript options.
An inline widget stays in the page content instead of opening as a popup.
Can I replace my current popup tool without rebuilding the site?
Yes. Install the RightMessage snippet on your existing site, then recreate your form, flow, trigger, and targeting. Test the form's destination action before removing the old popup.
RightMessage doesn't automatically import another tool's forms, consent wording, or integrations. Avoid leaving two active popups competing for the same visitor.
Can I match my site's fonts and colors?
Yes. Design has fonts, colors, button and field styles, spacing, dark colors, and layout settings for each widget type. Copy from… reuses another widget's design, and AI Generate gives you alternatives to review.
The design reference explains the controls. For changes beyond them, you can use Custom CSS. That article also explains the limits of CSS scoping.
Why is my popup clipped at the top?
Your page's CSS, viewport, header, or custom widget CSS could be affecting it. Compare the full-size preview with the affected page in the same browser to narrow down the cause.
Follow widget troubleshooting before adding offsets. If it still happens, keep the affected URL, viewport size, screenshot, and widget ID so you can share the details. Clipping alone doesn't tell you which setting or stylesheet caused it.
How does exit intent work on a phone?
On a phone, it waits for 5 seconds without a tracked interaction after page load or the most recent interaction. On desktop, it uses cursor movement near the top of the page.
The setting is When they're about to leave, and it's available for Popup and Full-screen takeover. See the display reference.
Why does a form keep old values when I reopen it?
RightMessage keeps your edits when the same form appears again in the current flow session. It refreshes prefilled values only in fields you haven't edited. Email and mapped custom fields can use known contact data. Choice fields can use known segmentation.
Reopening a form doesn't clear those values or erase contact identity. A third-party form handles its own resets. Compare a fresh page session with the returning session before adding reset code. See the form fields reference.
What appears if an inline widget has nothing to show?
Nothing appears unless the flow reaches visible content for that visitor. If it skips all relevant questions and no form or offer applies, the embed placeholder won't create a fallback offer. Add a fallback path when your page needs one.
The editor's sample or fallback preview isn't content for the real visitor. Your website still controls any copy outside the widget.
Can I use a hosted page instead of embedding?
For an existing website, use an inline widget. Hosted pages are a separate way to display a flow, but the current dashboard has no hosted-page Publish, Unpublish, or Archive controls. Hosted custom domains aren't available, and saving a new draft page doesn't make it public.
You can also install a flow template to get started. Review its content, mappings, and widget settings before publishing.
