Create a widget and attach a flow

You'll put a flow on your website, give it a design that fits your pages, and try it before visitors see it.

Available on the Grow, Scale, and Pro plans.

A widget lets visitors answer your questions, fill out a form, or see an offer on your website. You'll attach a flow to it, choose where it appears, and match it to your site's design.

You'll need project edit access and the RightMessage snippet on your website. You can use an existing regular flow or create one during setup. System flows can't attach to widgets.

Create your widget

  1. Open Widgets under Convert, then choose New widget.
  2. Under What type of widget?, choose Toaster. It slides into a corner without needing an edit to your website.
  3. Under Which flow should it show?, select your flow or Create a new flow.
  4. Enter a Widget name you'll recognize, such as Website survey.
  5. Choose Create widget.
  6. Turn Enabled off while you build. New widgets start enabled, so an unfinished widget could go live in a later project-wide publish.

Want a popup or a survey inside your page instead? See widget types and setup options, which also covers copying a design, naming, and finding widgets later.

Add the questions and offers

Your flow decides what visitors see. For example, WorkForge (opens in a new tab) could ask about team size, then offer a project-planning playbook.

  1. Open Content.
  2. Under Which Flow should this widget use?, select the flow. The Used by column shows whether another widget already uses it.
  3. Choose Open in flow builder beside the diagram.
  4. Add the questions, branches, and form or offer your visitors need. A newly created flow starts empty.
  5. Return to the widget's Overview and check the Setup card. Choose Change beside a row to open its settings.

You edit the flow in the flow builder, not in the widget's Content tab. Those edits affect every widget attached to the flow. You can reuse the same questions on another page without duplicating them.

Choose when it appears

  1. Open Display, then When it appears.
  2. Choose the trigger and devices you want to use.
  3. Set Targeting rules to choose the pages and visitors who can see it.
  4. Set After it's dismissed to choose when someone can see it again after closing it.
  5. Review Question handling to decide whether to ask questions the visitor has already answered.

Timing, targeting, and remembered answers have separate controls. The widget display reference explains their choices and defaults, including placement settings for inline widgets.

Match your site and try it out

  1. Open Design and choose your theme, colors, fonts, and spacing. The design reference covers each control.
  2. Preview the flow and phone layout, including the path for someone whose answers you don't know.
  3. Turn Enabled on when the widget is ready.
  4. Choose Preview on your site in the bottom bar. Use Choose preview URL to open the page where you want to try it.
  5. Complete the flow and check its final action.

The debugger opens at the bottom of your website. It shows what RightMessage knows about you and why it shows or hides the widget. See testing your changes for testing different visitors.

Once you're happy with it, review and publish your changes. Visit the page like any other visitor and check that the widget appears and its final action works.

Next, see how visitors use your widget.
