Show agencies a headline about client projects while other visitors see your usual team-work headline. That's what our example business, WorkForge (opens in a new tab), could do with a campaign, without creating another page.

A campaign brings together the audiences you want to reach and the page changes each should see. You'll choose those audiences first, then write their content in the campaign editor.

Choose a starting page

Pick a real page on your website and the people you'd like to make it more relevant to. You'll need project editing access. RightMessage must be installed on your site for published changes to appear.

  1. Open Campaigns under Personalize, then choose New campaign.
  2. Enter a Campaign name, such as "Homepage for agencies".
  3. In Which page should it personalize?, enter the full URL of the page where you want to start.
  4. Under Create an audience for each segment in these groups, choose up to three segment groups. This step is optional.
  5. Each group starts with all its segments selected. Clear the checkboxes for any you don't want to include.
  6. Review Audiences to create, then choose Create campaign.

New campaign form with a homepage URL and Customer Lifecycle audiences selected

The New campaign form with a page URL and one segment group selected.

RightMessage creates one audience for each selected segment, not every combination of segments across groups. For example, selecting three business types and two lifecycle stages creates five audiences. You can create up to 100 audiences in this step.

Segments are optional. Skip the groups to A/B test the page itself: a campaign with no audiences is a plain page A/B test of the Original page. See run an A/B test on a page or audience. You can add audiences later.

The campaign saves to your project draft and opens in the campaign editor in the same tab. No page content has changed yet.

Make the first change

  1. Stay in Edit mode.
  2. Choose an audience in the left panel.
  3. Click the headline or other element you want to change.
  4. Write its replacement in the element editor.

Follow Change copy, images, links, and page sections for the content controls. If you want help with the wording, ask Righty for options.

Original page is what visitors see when no audience matches. Its own content is your page as it is. To try different versions of it, choose A/B test the original page from its actions menu (this needs Pro to start). There is no Everyone audience; every audience needs at least one segment.

You can add and manage audiences later. The editor's Add audiences dialog includes Select all for selecting the available segments in a group. Its Visitors from a link option creates an audience for people who arrive with a UTM or other query parameter, such as everyone clicking one ad, without setting up a segment group first.

Check what visitors will see

Use Preview mode to check different segment combinations. If a visitor can match several audiences, review any audience overlaps.

Then choose Preview on your site in the bottom bar. Use Choose preview URL to open the page you changed. The debugger shows which audiences match and which changes apply. Check a matching visitor, an unmatched visitor, and your mobile layout before publishing.

New campaigns with audiences also start with a 10% holdback. Held-back visitors see your page as it is even when they match an audience. See testing your changes for the full check.

Go live

Once the right content appears for each audience, review and publish the project. Publishing applies the full project draft, not just this campaign.

Next, attach a conversion goal and compare against holdback to see whether the personalized page helps people take the next step.
