RightMessage

RightMessage behavior conditions

You'll find how to match the widget running a flow or questions answered on this page, and when to use saved-answer conditions instead.

Available on the Grow, Scale, and Pro plans.

You can give a flow different paths depending on which widget is running it or whether someone has answered a question on this page. Both checks are under RightMessage.

What it checks

Current Widget checks the widget running the flow. Question Engagement checks questions answered during the current page view. Neither checks the visitor's entire account history.

The RightMessage category isn't offered in widget-targeting conditions. In a flow, the Current Widget picker lists only that flow's widgets.

When to use it

Use Current Widget when the same flow needs to behave differently in different widgets. Use Question Engagement when you want to respond to someone answering on the page they're viewing now.

For saved input answers, use input-question answer conditions. For a selected multiple-choice answer or membership established by automatic rules, use segment membership conditions. Pages and visits conditions cover browsing history, page counts, and returning visitors.

Options

Current Widget

Current Widget compares the widget supplied to the condition with your selected widgets.

FieldOptions or valueInitial selection
Operatorinclude any of; don't include any of; matches any; doesn't match anyinclude any of
WidgetsMulti-select of widgets belonging to the current flowNo widgets selected

include any of matches when the current widget is in your selection. don't include any of matches when a current widget exists and isn't in your selection. Multiple selected widgets are alternatives. They don't require several widgets to be visible.

Question Engagement

Question Engagement checks which questions recorded an answer event during the current page view.

FieldOptions or valueInitial selection

QuestionsMulti-select of questionsNo questions selected
Scopethis page viewthis page view

The scope picker has only this page view. There isn't a last-week, session, or all-time option.

OperatorWhat matches
include any ofAt least one selected question was answered during this page view.
don't include any ofNone of the selected questions was answered during this page view.
matches anyAt least one question was answered during this page view.
doesn't match anyNo question was answered during this page view.

The first two operators check your selected question IDs. matches any and doesn't match any don't need a question selection. They check the whole set of recorded answer events.

An empty selection doesn't pass include any of. It passes don't include any of, because none of the selected questions can be present. Before anyone answers a question, positive inclusion is false and negative inclusion is true.

Examples

WorkForge (opens in a new tab) could use Current Widget with include any of and its pricing-page Toaster to distinguish it from another widget running the same flow. That checks the current widget, not whether the visitor has ever seen it.

The rule below checks whether someone answered "Do you work with a team?" during this page view.

Question Engagement condition matching Do you work with a team on this page viewOriginal
Question Engagement condition matching Do you work with a team on this page view

Someone with a saved answer from yesterday can still fail today's positive Question Engagement condition. A new answer event tells you what happened on this page. It doesn't necessarily establish long-term segment membership.

Things to know

Current Widget needs a selection and a current widget

Current Widget needs both a nonempty widget selection and a widget supplied to the condition. Without either, every operator returns no match, including negative comparisons.

The presence-style labels don't reliably check whether a widget exists. When the required selection and current widget are present, matches any checks whether your configured list is nonempty. It doesn't check whether the current widget belongs to that list. doesn't match any can't pass the initial requirement for a nonempty list.

Use include any of or don't include any of with explicit widget choices to compare widget identity. An empty list isn't an unrestricted rule.

Outside a flow, the widget picker has no flow-specific choices. A condition evaluated without a current widget also doesn't match. It doesn't infer a current widget from another widget visible on the page.

Engagement counts answers, not views

An answer event counts as engagement. Showing a question, opening a widget, or viewing a flow doesn't count.

RightMessage tracks whether each question was answered, not how many times. Answering the same question twice doesn't give you an engagement count to compare here.

RightMessage doesn't restore these events from saved answers. A full page reload starts a new set. On a single-page application, a URL change doesn't necessarily reset the set. That depends on whether your site starts a new page-view lifecycle.
