Analyze your RightMessage A/B tests in PostHog.

RightMessage is a personalization platform with built-in A/B testing. When a visitor sees a version of a test, RightMessage captures an rm_experience_impression event in PostHog with a $feature/rm-<experienceId> property. You can break down funnels, retention, and other insights by the version each visitor saw.

Keep your PostHog setup.

RightMessage calls the posthog object already on your page. It does not install PostHog for you.

What RightMessage sends to PostHog.

An rm_experience_impression event

Each impression is captured as rm_experience_impression. It sets $feature/rm-<experienceId> to the version's ID, plus exp_variant_string, rm_experience_id, rm_experience_kind, rm_experience_name, rm_variant_id, rm_variant_name, and, when present, rm_campaign_id and rm_resource_id.

The RM-<experienceId>-<variantId> string

exp_variant_string has the format RM-<experienceId>-<variantId>, for example RM-cpn_5didDYbc-control. The Send to your analytics panel on each test card lists the string for every version.

No extra plan needed

The PostHog hand-off needs no extra plan beyond the tests themselves. Impressions come from holdbacks and A/B tests (Scale and Pro) and split tests (Pro). Enable the PostHog app card in Integrations, then publish.

How to set up the PostHog hand-off.

  • Load PostHog on your page so window.posthog.capture is available.
  • In RightMessage, open Integrations, find the PostHog card, and click Enable. Changes reach your website after you publish.
  • Break down insights by the $feature/rm-<experienceId> property, or filter on exp_variant_string.
  • Page tests, audience tests, campaign holdbacks, and legacy split tests all send the event.
  • RightMessage also sends its rm_ interaction events and identifies visitors it already knows by email.
