Selecting A Website Element To Personalize In The Campaign Editor

In the campaign editing area under the admin toolbar and URL bar, is the main website preview pane.

The preview pane is where you can select and personalize different elements on a website, such as headings and paragraph text, opt in forms, buttons, images etc.

Personalizations can range from:

  • Adjusting the heading and paragraph text.

  • Changing the appearance of an element.

  • Replacing the image being displayed.

  • Showing or hiding elements.

Personalizations can also differ between segments, so an element that is personalized for one segment, can be personalized again for another segment.

Currently campaigns do not interact with each other to show personalizations added in other campaigns.

Selecting a new element to personalize

When the campaign editing area is loaded, the website preview pane will display the homepage of the website being personalized.

As you move your mouse around the website preview pane, the corresponding elements are highlighted on the page with a pink outline. The outline will specify the type of element you are viewing - such as a link, headline, paragraph, list item, image or other type of element.

Click an element in the website preview pane to select it.

A box will display under the element with an option to personalize the element or cancel the selection.

Click the option to ‘Start Personalizing This …’.

The personalization editing tool will display on the screen containing the options available for personalizing the element.

You may come across an issue where you are unable to select an element on the page using the highlight feature.

It is likely the element you want to personalize is obstructed by other elements sitting over the top of it - such as a background image showing under your main navigation or other ‘above the fold’ elements.

In these cases you would need to manually select the element using the ‘Affected Elements’ options of the personalization editing tool. We have a guide on how to manually select an element.

Selecting an element that has already been personalized

Once you have personalized an element, the element will be highlighted with a light blue outline. The highlight will appear even if you have not personalized that element for the segment selected.

To edit the element, click on the highlighted area and click ‘View Personalization’ or ‘Cancel’.

When clicking ‘View Personalization’, the personalization editing tool will display on the screen containing the options available for personalizing the element.

If the element you want to edit is a clickable link or button, and you have personalized the URL destination that it links to, you will also see an option to ‘Follow This Link’.

Click this option to navigate to the URL the element has been personalized to link to.
