How To Integrate ActiveCampaign With RightMessage

In order to use tags and lists created in ActiveCampaign in your personalizations and Referral Sources, you must connect your ActiveCampaign account to your RightMessage account.  

Follow the steps below to connect your ActiveCampaign account to your RightMessage account.

Access ActiveCampaign API Credentials within your ActiveCampaign account

First, log into ActiveCampaign to begin the process of accessing your API credentials.

Once you have logged into ActiveCampaign, click on the down arrow beside your profile icon and click ‘My Settings’.

Click ‘Developer’ in the left menu.

You will see your API URL and Key in the ‘API Access’ box.

Add Your ActiveCampaign API Credentials to your RightMessage Account

Log into your RightMessage account.

If you have not integrated your website in RightMessage with any email marketing services, the main dashboard in your RightMessage account will prompt you to integrate with an email marketing service.

Click the yellow ‘Go To Integrations’  button

Alternatively, click on the ‘gear’ icon in the top right of the screen and select ‘Integrations’.

Click on the  ‘ActiveCampaign’ tab in the left area of the screen. A box with the ActiveCampaign API settings will be displayed.

Add the API URL and API Key from your ActiveCampaign account  into the fields provided and click the ‘Connect With Active Campaign’ button.

Once the screen refreshes, the details have been saved successfully.

To delete the ActiveCampaign integration, click on the ‘Delete ActiveCampaign’ button. The settings will automatically be cleared for you.

Identifying the ActiveCampaign Subscriber ID.

In order for RightMessage to identify your ActiveCampaign subscriber and evaluate the tags and custom fields assigned to their profile, a connection needs to be established between your Subscriber and RightMessage.

Currently ActiveCampaign does not provide an option to automatically send the subscriber ID as a ‘parameter’ when the subscriber clicks through a link added to your email. This step will need to be added manually.

In order for RightMessage to recognize an ActiveCampaign email subscriber, a ‘query parameter’ must be added to any outbound links in your outbound emails, as well as the thank you page URL new subscribers are directed to when they confirm their subscription.

Adding a custom parameter to email links

For the links added to ActiveCampaign outbound emails, append the following ‘query parameter’ to the end of the link:


Adding ‘%CONTACTID%’ to the end of a link will populate the subscriber’s ActiveCampaign subscriber ID when an email is sent.

When a subscriber clicks on the link, the subscriber ID is automatically picked up and remembered by RightMessage for pageviews specified in your segment conditions.

Adding a custom parameter to a custom confirmation page URL

When a new subscriber clicks the link in the confirmation email to confirm their subscription, you can configure ActiveCampaign to send the new subscriber to a custom URL on your website.

For the confirmation URL, add the same ‘?rm_ac=%CONTACTID%’ query parameter to the URL.

The URL will briefly show the Subscriber ID when the subscriber is redirected to the confirmation page.

This will cookie the subscriber when they click on the confirmation link.
