# Slider question reference

You can ask visitors to choose a number on a slider, set its range, and save the answer to your email platform or CRM.

Available on the Grow, Scale, and Pro plans.

A **Slider** question lets visitors drag to a number within a range you choose. You can use that number to decide what to show them next.

## When to use it

Use a slider when you want someone to place themselves on a scale. [WorkForge](https://workforge.rightmessage.com) could ask how ready a team is to change its project workflow.

An untouched slider submits its starting value when the visitor continues. **Required** doesn't force them to move it, so a midpoint answer doesn't necessarily mean they dragged the slider.

## Settings

| Setting | Default and what it does |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Minimum** | 0. Sets the lower end of the range. |
| **Maximum** | 100. Sets the upper end of the range. |
| **Minimum label** | **Not at all**. Describes the low end. |
| **Maximum label** | **Completely**. Describes the high end. |
| **Step** | 1. Sets a positive increment between values. |
| **Starting value** | The middle of the allowed increments, which is 50 for the default range. |
| **Show as a percentage** | Off. Adds % after the displayed value. |
| **Required** | Off. Visitors can skip the question. |

A **Starting value** you set snaps to an allowed increment and stays within the range. Without one, the live control chooses the midpoint among the allowed increments. If **Step** doesn't divide evenly into the range, the highest selectable value can be below **Maximum**.

Percentage is a display option, not a separate question type. See [shared question settings](https://rightmessage.com/help/question-settings-reference) for wording and button labels.

## How answers are stored and synced

RightMessage saves a number. **Show as a percentage** doesn't divide it by 100, so a displayed 75% saves 75.

**Save answers to** shows your connected platform's name and offers compatible native or custom fields. Answers can still appear in **Responses** without a mapping. Mapping a field doesn't identify the visitor. See [answer sync](https://rightmessage.com/help/synchronizing-contact-data-with-your-email-platform-or-crm) for identification and destination checks.

Slider answers don't automatically create segments or answer branches. Use [input-answer conditions](https://rightmessage.com/help/conditions-answers) to compare the saved value. A [linked Slider form field](https://rightmessage.com/help/form-fields-reference) is always full width and submits with its form.

The editor preview doesn't record answers or send data to your email platform. Existing edits autosave to the draft and affect every use after publication. The [Questions library reference](https://rightmessage.com/help/question-library-reference) covers creating and reusing questions.
