# NPS question reference

You can ask how likely visitors are to recommend you, collect a score from 0 to 10, and see how RightMessage calculates your Net Promoter Score.

Available on the Grow, Scale, and Pro plans.

An **NPS** question asks visitors how likely they are to recommend you. It collects a number from 0 through 10 for Net Promoter Score reporting.

## When to use it

Use NPS when you want to measure willingness to recommend your business. [WorkForge](https://workforge.rightmessage.com) could ask, "How likely are you to recommend WorkForge to a friend?"

The answer is a number, not a segment or a flow score.

## Settings

![NPS question draft with wording, type-specific settings, behavior, and internal name](https://rightmessage.com/help/screens/questions-nps-settings.light.webp)

| Setting | Default and what it does |
| ------------ | --------------------------------------------- |
| **0 label** | **Not at all likely**. Describes the low end. |
| **10 label** | **Extremely likely**. Describes the high end. |
| **Required** | Off. Visitors can skip the question. |

The range is fixed. NPS has no minimum, maximum, step, or star-count setting. Choosing a whole number advances a standalone question without another Next click. Zero counts as an answer, not a skipped response.

See [shared question settings](https://rightmessage.com/help/question-settings-reference) for wording and button labels.

## How answers are stored and synced

### How your NPS score is calculated

The **Results** tab groups answers as follows:

| Answer | Group |
| ----------- | ---------- |
| 0 through 6 | Detractors |
| 7 and 8 | Passives |
| 9 and 10 | Promoters |

Your NPS score is the percentage of promoters minus the percentage of detractors, not the average of the scores. Each visitor counts once, using their latest score in the selected date range.

**Results** also shows the respondent count, group shares, and a histogram from 0 through 10. See [question results and activity](https://rightmessage.com/help/question-results-and-activity) for reporting details.

### Save and use the answer

**Save answers to** shows your connected platform's name and offers compatible native or custom fields. Answers can still appear in **Responses** without a mapping. Mapping a field doesn't identify the visitor. See [answer sync](https://rightmessage.com/help/synchronizing-contact-data-with-your-email-platform-or-crm) for identification and destination checks.

NPS answers don't automatically create segments or answer branches. Use [input-answer conditions](https://rightmessage.com/help/conditions-answers) to compare the saved score. A [linked form field](https://rightmessage.com/help/form-fields-reference) waits for form submission rather than advancing on selection.

The editor preview doesn't record answers or send data to your email platform. Existing edits autosave to the draft and affect every use after publication. The [Questions library reference](https://rightmessage.com/help/question-library-reference) covers creating and reusing questions.
