# Project billing states, trials, and activation

Check your project's billing status, see what a saved card means, and find the right way to activate or renew your plan.

Every project has its own subscription, and every project starts with its own 14-day trial. Use this page to check a project's billing status and what to do next. Your login, a saved card, a trial, and permission to publish are separate things. Saving a card alone doesn't activate a subscription.

## Find your billing page

| If your account uses… | Open | What's covered |
| --------------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Current per-project billing | **Settings**, then **Billing** | Each project has its own subscription. Creating another project does not include it in an existing payment. |
| Legacy account-wide billing | **Your profile**, then **Billing & Invoices** | The owner's subscription covers their projects under that account's actual limits. |

You'll need permission to manage billing to change or reactivate a subscription. If you're a collaborator without that permission, RightMessage can ask you to contact the owner or switch projects.

## When each project's trial starts

| Project | When its 14-day trial starts |
| ----------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Your first project | When you sign up. The ordinary signup doesn't need a card. |
| Each project you add | Right after you create it. **Set up billing for this project** opens, you choose the plan and card, and **Start 14-day trial for this project** starts the trial. You aren't charged that day. |
| A project on legacy account-wide billing, or a free account | There's no separate trial. The owner's existing subscription or free account covers it, so the billing step doesn't appear. |

If a new project's billing setup didn't finish, the project has no plan yet. You can keep building in it, and publishing asks you to start its 14-day trial first.

## Read your subscription status

| Status | What it means for you |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Free account | The summary says the account uses the free version. This is distinct from a paid trial. |
| No plan yet, no payment method | The project's billing setup didn't finish, so its trial hasn't started. **Add Payment Method** can save a card, and publishing asks you to start the 14-day trial. |
| No plan yet, saved payment method | A card is on file, but the project's trial still starts when you publish. A saved card alone isn't a subscription. |
| Pending confirmed activation | You've confirmed the plan, but its invoice still needs payment. **Resume activation** continues that attempt. |
| Non-renewing trial | The trial ends or has ended without renewing. **Enable paid renewal** starts the explicit authorization process. |
| Renewing trial | The page shows the trial deadline and the plan that follows the trial. |
| Active subscription | You'll see your subscribed plan and the next billing date when available. |
| Inactive subscription | The page asks for updated billing information. The blocking screen distinguishes an ended subscription, expired trial, and payment needing attention. |

**Estimated monthly visitors** is a rolling 30-day average. It is not a new visitor-based charge on current per-project plans.

**Cancel Plan** appears only for an eligible subscription that isn't already ending, canceled, incomplete-expired, or a non-renewing trial. It opens the billing portal, not the downgrade dialog.

## Billing during signup

The ordinary signup offers 14 days without a credit card. You don't need to find a card form or a three-plan chooser when this offer is shown. The default no-card selection is Scale with monthly billing when available, unless your signup already has a valid selection. Read the offer shown for your session.

Some signup links and partner offers include billing. After the password step, **Next** opens the available plan and payment choices.

| If you'd like to… | What to check or choose |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Review a preselected plan | Check the plan, price, trial terms, and billing interval. **Change** opens the chooser when it's available. |
| Choose a plan | Choose **Monthly billing** or **Yearly billing**, then **Grow**, **Scale**, or **Pro**. Yearly billing shows a monthly equivalent and the actual yearly total. |
| Enter payment details | Use **Billing information**. If the secure card form fails to load, choose **Retry secure payment form**. |
| Finish signup | Read the terms, then click **Start trial** for ordinary card-based signup, or the action named by your partner offer. Complete any security or bank-authentication step. |
| Go back before submitting | **Back** returns to the password step. |

A partner offer can fix or change the available selection. It isn't a discount that applies to every new account. If pricing fails to load, use **Retry pricing**. Read a payment error before submitting again.

A no-card trial doesn't renew merely because you later save a card.

## Set up billing for a project

**Set up billing for this project** opens right after you create a project, and again when activation is required. It shows available plan cards and **Annual** or **Monthly**, unless the offer fixes those choices.

With a saved payment method, the choices are **Use saved payment method** and **Use a different card**. Without one, the secure card form appears.

For a new project, **Start 14-day trial for this project** starts that project's trial once billing is confirmed. You aren't charged that day, and you can change the plan later from **Billing**. A blocking or submitting dialog can't be dismissed. A nonblocking dialog has **Cancel**.

![Plan selection showing Grow, Scale and Pro features with monthly and annual billing controls](https://rightmessage.com/help/screens/upgrade.light.webp)

This screen shows the plan and billing-cycle choices. The activation dialog also shows your project's payment terms and any required renewal consent.

## Enable paid renewal on a fixed trial

A fixed, non-renewing trial does not become renewing when you add a card. Enabling renewal requires the checkbox that authorizes the selected project plan, amount, charge timing, and monthly or yearly recurrence until canceled.

Before the deadline, the action can be **Enable paid renewal for this project**. When payment is due now, it can be **Pay now and activate this project**. Activation doesn't start another 14-day trial.

Publishing remains a separate action. Billing confirmation does not approve or publish the current draft.

## Retry an activation without paying twice

If a confirmed activation fails, RightMessage keeps the plan you confirmed.

1. When **Pay existing invoice securely** is available, open it to pay the existing invoice.
2. After paying, return to RightMessage.
3. Choose **Retry confirmed activation** to check the payment status.

**Retry billing details** reloads unavailable billing choices. If the invoice link is missing, retry to retrieve it or contact [billing support](mailto:support@rightmessage.com). Don't create another project or subscription to pay the same confirmed activation.

## Check visitor usage on a legacy subscription

![Account billing and invoices settings with change-plan and manage-billing actions](https://rightmessage.com/help/screens/profile-billing.light.webp)

This example shows a free account at the legacy billing location, rather than an active usage chart.

Legacy billing can show usage across all the owner's websites. The usage section includes the billing-period start, visitors since that date, daily average, projected 30-day visitors, and a chart. Legacy project-count limits aren't limits on how many separately billed projects a current account can create.

See [plan management](https://rightmessage.com/help/how-to-update-your-billing-and-change-your-plan) to make changes, or [billing troubleshooting](https://rightmessage.com/help/troubleshoot-billing) if a payment still needs attention.
