# Open a widget from a link or button

You'll connect a website link or button to your widget so visitors can open a form, survey, or offer when they want it.

Available on the Grow, Scale, and Pro plans.

Let visitors open your widget by clicking a link or button on your website. For example, [WorkForge](https://workforge.rightmessage.com) could open a playbook signup form when someone chooses to download it.

You'll need a [floating widget with content](https://rightmessage.com/help/creating-and-designing-widgets), project edit access, and the RightMessage snippet on the page. You'll also need permission to edit the website's link or button. An inline widget sits in the page instead of opening when clicked.

## Copy your widget's link

1. Open **Widgets** and select your widget.
2. Open **Display**, then **When it appears**.
3. Select **Manually**.
4. Copy the fragment link shown beneath the setting.

The fragment contains your widget's ID. That tells RightMessage which widget to open when someone clicks.

## Connect your website button

Set your link or button's destination to the fragment you copied. For example:

```html
<a href="#wdg_12345678">Get the WorkForge playbook</a>
```

Replace `wdg_12345678` with your own widget ID. It's an example, not a working widget. Keep the link on a page where the project's snippet runs, then save and publish the website change through your site platform.

If your page builder needs a custom attribute or CSS class, or your developer needs JavaScript, see the [manual trigger options](https://rightmessage.com/help/widget-display-reference#manual-trigger-options).

## Try the button before going live

1. Review the widget's flow and page setup, then turn **Enabled** on.
2. Choose **Preview on your site** in the bottom bar. Use **Choose preview URL** to open the page with your button.
3. Click the button and complete the flow.
4. Check the final action, including the destination record if the form sends data to your email platform.

The debugger opens at the bottom of the page. Use it to see what RightMessage knows about you and which content the flow shows. [Testing your changes](https://rightmessage.com/help/best-practices-for-testing) covers testing submissions and different visitors.

If nothing opens, check the widget ID, snippet, and whether the flow has visible content. After publishing, check the published settings too. Use [widget troubleshooting](https://rightmessage.com/help/troubleshoot-widget-display) rather than adding a second automatic trigger. A manual trigger isn't a security control for private content.

## Publish the widget

[Review and publish your project changes](https://rightmessage.com/help/publishing-your-changes), then visit the page like any other visitor. The button should open your widget, and visitors should be able to complete its flow.
