# Lead alerts reference

Look up how visits are checked, what each lead alert action does, every limit, and what the alert list, visit details, and alert email show.

Available on the Pro plan.

Use this page when you're setting up [lead alerts](https://rightmessage.com/help/lead-alerts) and need the exact rules: when a visit is checked, what each action can change, and what you'll see on the **Lead alerts** page and in the alert email.

## How visits are checked

| What | How it works |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Who is checked | Identified people only: visitors whose email address RightMessage knows. Anonymous visitors aren't checked or identified. |
| When a visit ends | 20 minutes after the person's last page view. RightMessage looks for ended visits every few minutes, so expect the alert shortly after that. |
| What a rule reads | The visit's pages in order, with titles and time on each page, where the person arrived from, their device, location and network, their activity in the 30 days before the visit, their segments, and their contact in your connected email platform, including tags and fields. |
| Which rules | Every rule that's on. One check judges the visit against all of them. |
| Match | A rule matches when the judgment is **Match** at 80% confidence or more. The visit details show the confidence for each rule. |
| New or reworded rules | Apply to visits checked after you save. Visits already checked keep the verdicts they got. |
| Repeats | After a person triggers a rule, the same rule doesn't alert on them again for 7 days before or after that visit. These visits show **Repeat, no new alert**, and their actions don't run. |
| Customer status | Judged as it is now. A former customer counts as a non-customer. |

Visits from a data center network are flagged in the visit details. They're often automated, such as an email security scanner opening a link, rather than a person browsing.

If you see **Live checking is off in this environment, so no actions run**, new visits aren't being checked there, and the results on the page are test runs over past visits.

## Rules

| Setting | Limit |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Rules per project | 10, whether they're on or off. **New rule** is unavailable at the limit. |
| **Name** | Required, up to 120 characters. |
| **Who you want to hear about** | Required, up to 1,000 characters. |
| Actions per rule | Up to 10. A rule with no actions only lists its matches on the page. |

Rule edits save when you choose **Save**. The on/off switch applies immediately.

## Actions

Actions run only for a live alert, never for a test run or a repeat. Each address gets one email per visit, naming every rule that matched and emails it.

| Action | What it does | Limits |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Send email** | Emails a short alert to each address. A new rule starts with your own email address. | One per rule. Up to 20 addresses, separated by commas. |
| **Apply tag** | Applies tags to the person's contact. | Up to 20 tags. |
| **Add to list** | Adds the person's contact to lists. | Up to 20 lists. |
| **Set custom field** | Sets one custom field on the person's contact to the value you enter. | One field per action. Values up to 500 characters. |

**Apply tag**, **Add to list**, and **Set custom field** only change a person who's already a contact in your connected email platform. Lead alerts never add contacts, so these actions are skipped for anyone who isn't there yet. Platforms that list their tags, lists, and fields let you pick them. Others take names, separated by commas.

An action is unavailable, with the reason, when the project has no connected email platform, when the platform needs reconnecting, or when the platform can't do it. Klaviyo segments can't be applied, so Klaviyo has no **Apply tag**. A Mailchimp audience is its own contact list, so adding someone would create a new contact, and Mailchimp has no **Add to list**.

Email platform actions remember the platform they were set up for. If the project switches to a different platform, those actions are skipped and the rule can't be saved until you choose its tags, lists, or field again.

## Results

The page has two views. **Alerts** shows visits that matched a rule. **All checked visits** adds visits that didn't, with the closest rule's verdict. Above the list, you'll see **Checked visits**, **Alerts**, and **Alert rate**.

| Column | Shows |
| ---------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Person** | The person's email address. Select it to open their profile. |
| **Visit ended** | When the visit ended, plus labels for what happened, such as **Emailed** or **Tagged**, or **Test run**. |
| **Why they're a lead** | A one- or two-sentence summary of why the person matters, or the visit's facts when there's no summary. |
| **Rules** | Each matching rule with its confidence, or **Repeat, no new alert**. |

**Test run** marks a visit found by replaying past traffic to test your rules. Actions don't run on test runs.

## Visit details

Select a row to open the visit. You'll find:

- **Full profile**, which opens the person's [visitor profile](https://rightmessage.com/help/profile-data-reference).
- **Preview email**, for a visit that alerted, which shows its alert email.
- **Copy to AI agent**, which copies everything recorded about the visit as Markdown for an AI assistant.
- The summary of why they matter.
- **How each rule judged it**: each rule's verdict and confidence, and what its actions did, including any that were skipped and why.
- **Righty's read**, written for this alert: **Who they are**, **What they care about**, **Website journey**, **Offer & form engagement**, **Intent & opportunity**, and **Recommended next step**.
- **What happened**: where they arrived from, their device and location, and each page they viewed, with a link to it and the time spent there.
- **Before this visit**: their earlier activity in the previous 30 days and their most viewed pages.
- **Segments** and their contact in your email platform, with its tags and fields.

## The alert email

The subject is 🔥 followed by the person's name (or email address) and the rules they triggered, such as "Jordan Lee triggered 'Ready to buy'". The email includes:

- The summary of why they matter.
- How many pages they viewed, over how long, where they arrived from, and how many visits they've made in the last 30 days.
- Righty's suggested next step, when there is one.
- Their tags in your email platform.
- Up to 12 pages they viewed, with titles.
- **Open their profile**, which opens their visitor profile in RightMessage.

To change who gets these emails, edit the rule's **Send email** action.
