# Build a resource recommendation with an AI assistant

In this guide, you'll connect your AI assistant to RightMessage and have it ask visitors one question, save their answer to your CRM, and send them to the resource that fits.

This guide is going to get your AI assistant, like Claude or ChatGPT, working inside your RightMessage project. You'll describe what you'd like in plain words, and it'll build a question that gets a bit of data from the people on your website, syncs it into your CRM, and gives each of them the perfect resource.

It builds the same thing as [the app guide](https://rightmessage.com/help/first-experience-in-the-app), and once your assistant is connected, you can hand it the rest of your segmentation and personalization playbook too.

## 1. Connect your assistant

Your assistant talks to RightMessage through MCP, a standard way for AI assistants to use other apps. Once it's connected, it can see how your project is set up and build things in it for you. Everything it builds is saved as a draft, so nothing goes live until you publish.

1. On your RightMessage dashboard, choose **Use RightMessage with your agent**. It copies a setup prompt with your project already filled in.
2. Paste the prompt into your assistant and follow along. When it asks, sign in to RightMessage in your browser and approve the connection.

Your assistant will also install our skills if it can. They teach it how to audit your project, segment visitors, personalize, and test safely. When it's done, it'll summarize how your project is set up, so you can make sure it's working in the right one, and ask what you'd like to work on.

Some assistants, like Claude and ChatGPT on the web, need you to add RightMessage in their connector settings yourself. [Connect RightMessage to your AI assistant](https://rightmessage.com/help/connect-rightmessage-to-ai-assistants-via-mcp) shows how, and it's also the place to go if you don't see the button.

## 2. Tell it what to build

Pick one question you'd love to know the answer to, and decide where each answer should send people. Then tell your assistant. Here's what our example business, [WorkForge](https://workforge.rightmessage.com), would send:

```prompt
Build a flow called "WorkForge starting guide" that shows in a toaster on every page.
Ask visitors "What would you like help with first?" with three answers:
- "Plan my work" goes to https://example.com/guides/planning
- "Coordinate my team" goes to https://example.com/guides/team-work
- "I'm exploring" goes to https://example.com/guides
Give each answer its own offer with a button to that page, and save their answer to my CRM.
Show me your plan before you build anything, and don't publish.
```

Swap in your own question and pages. Your question will appear on every page of your site, so pick one that makes sense wherever someone lands. If you haven't [connected your email platform or CRM](https://rightmessage.com/help/getting-started-with-rightmessage#4-connect-your-email-platform-or-crm) yet, leave out the CRM part.

You'll need RightMessage [installed on your website](https://rightmessage.com/help/getting-started-with-rightmessage) to try it out.

## 3. Check its plan, then let it build

Your assistant will lay out the question, the answers, and where each one leads. Make sure every answer sends people somewhere useful, then tell it to go ahead.

It'll build the flow, the question, an offer for each answer, and the toaster that shows them. RightMessage saves the question to your library and creates a segment for each answer, so later you can show different things to people based on what they chose. Open **Flows** in RightMessage to see it on the canvas.

Answers reach your CRM for visitors RightMessage can identify, such as subscribers who arrive from a link in one of your emails. [Syncing contact data](https://rightmessage.com/help/synchronizing-contact-data-with-your-email-platform-or-crm) covers the details for each platform.

## 4. Preview it on your site

Before anything goes live, use the built-in preview to load the draft on your real website.

1. In RightMessage, choose **Preview on your site** in the bar at the bottom of the dashboard. Use **Choose preview URL** if you'd like to start on a different page.
2. Your site opens with your unpublished changes, and the toaster appears in the bottom right corner.
3. Answer the question and check that the button opens the right page.

You'll also see our debugger docked at the bottom of the page. It shows what RightMessage knows about you and why it's showing what it shows. If something's off, tell your assistant what you saw and ask it to fix it. [Testing your changes](https://rightmessage.com/help/best-practices-for-testing) covers how to try each answer as a fresh visitor.

## 5. Publish

Once you're happy with it, tell your assistant to publish it. You can also choose **Publish** in RightMessage if you'd like to [review your changes](https://rightmessage.com/help/publishing-your-changes) there first. Then visit your site like any other visitor to see it live.

When a real visitor can answer your question and land on the right resource, it's working. Next, ask your assistant how it's doing, or [see for yourself](https://rightmessage.com/help/measure-your-first-journey).
